AXAMITA – Implementation Stages

Sequence of Work

Surface Preparation

As with all plastering works, the substrate must be carefully prepared before applying AXAMITA thermal insulating plaster. If masonry or blocks contain large chips or holes, these must be filled with plaster or adhesive. The surface of aerated concrete or lightweight expanded clay blocks should be dusted off and thoroughly moistened with water. Other mineral substrates — especially during renovation works — must be primed. For smooth surfaces, priming should be done using adhesion-improving rough primers.

Installation of Plaster Guides (Profiles)

This is one of the most critical stages of the work! Properly installed plaster guides ensure an even and aesthetically pleasing façade. The installation method may vary depending on the worker’s experience and qualification. The most important thing is to make sure all profiles are installed at the same level, which makes leveling with a straightedge easier later on.

Applying the First (Base) Coat

For the application of AXAMITA thermal insulating plaster, a metal trowel, spatula, and straightedge are used. From experience, we recommend moistening the primed surface with water to improve the adhesion of the mortar to the wall. The plaster mortar is applied between the guides using a trowel. Then the excess material is removed with the straightedge by performing side-to-side cutting movements while pressing it firmly against the guides.

 Removing the Plaster Guides

After the plaster has fully hardened, the guides should be carefully removed along their entire height. The resulting grooves should be moistened and filled with AXAMITA plaster mortar to achieve a uniform surface.

Applying the Finishing (Top) Coat

At this stage, the prepared, slightly thinner mixture is applied using a plastic trowel and metal spatula. The finishing coat must be applied in one continuous pass — from corner to corner — without breaks or interruptions. In agreement with the client, masking tape can be used. As with the first layer, it is recommended to moisten the surface with water before application. The finishing coat is applied in a thin layer, excess material is removed, and the wall is smoothed with circular movements until an even surface is achieved.

Priming and Painting

Priming and painting are carried out using highly vapor-permeable primers and paints, usually silicone- or silicate-based, to maintain the breathability of the coating.
